A redux, by request ~ Thank you friends!
My friend Andrea authors one of my favorite blogs "Under a Blue Moon", a regular feature of her blog which I particularly like is called Friday's Favorites in which Andrea shares a collection of intriguing items she has found from around the web.

Recently she linked to a treasure of a blog called "Baked by Rachel". Rachel shared this wonderful technique of making Peppermint Bark candy using a silicone food mold. Just like Andrea, I thought this idea was brilliant ~ rather than just breaking the candy into irregular shards.

Rachel has an excellent step-by-step tutorial on her blog, complete with photos. (See end of this post for the link.)
The process is simple using the typical Peppermint Bark recipe. Choose your favorite type of chocolate; milk, semi-sweet, dark etc., white chocolate, crushed peppermint candies (or candy canes), a small amount of vegetable oil, and a few drops of Peppermint extract.

But instead of spreading the chocolate layers on a sheet pan, the melted chocolate is placed in a silicone mold. First the dark layer, then a thin sprinkling of crushed peppermint, and placed in the refrigerator until firm.
The melted white chocolate is spread on top of the dark layer and sprinkled with larger pieces of crushed peppermint, then back into the fridge to harden. As soon as the chocolate is firm the candy snowflakes are pushed out of the flexible silicone mold with no problem.

As Rachel suggested I used a small cookie scoop to portion the melted chocolate into the molds with a minimum of mess, that worked really well. Something that I found useful was to use a toothpick to swirl through the chocolate in the mold to help move it into the mold's details.
Stacked into little cellophane bags, or candy tins I think these would make a great little gift from your kitchen. If you try them I hope you have fun and enjoy them too

I'm sending out a huge thank you to both Rachel and Andrea for sharing!
Thank you for stopping by today, friends. I always appreciate any comments you would care to share. :)

This is an amazing idea! I plan to do it. Thanks.
I'll have you know I never stopped thinking about these after seeing them for the first time on your blog... so I tracked down and purchased the silicone pan. Can't wait to make them.
xoxo
I remember these beauties, and actually started looking for the silicone snowflake molds in October but didn't find any. Merry Christmas to you and your family Mari!
LOVE this idea for some of our favourite barks!!
I once looked for this also..of course because of you..
Perfectly made and photoed..!!
This is my first time to see these. While I am personally saddened by the thought of ruining perfectly good chocolate with mint - everyone else in my family loves this stuff. THANK YOU.
This looks so good.
Those are picture-perfect and no doubt taste perfect as well! Really love this for the holidays and will go to eBay and see about the molds!
You and your beautiful treats! I'm sure all of your guests have a difficult time pushing themselves back away from your table!! :-)
Now that my health issues seem to be under control (boring subject), I think I'll be doing some cooking soon. And, of course, your site will be the first place I scroll through for inspiration!
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!
Just found your blog through Faithfulness Farm! So glad!! I am one of your newest followers!
These are gorgeous! Like someone else mentioned, I hate to ruin good chocolate with peppermint but my family would love these. :-)
I'm a new follower and look forward to more of your sharings and personal creations.
Merry Christmas!
Pat
